three challenges available

  • Bioplastics

Bioplastics include compostable products and products made from bio-based materials such as bio-monomers and bio-feedstocks. LG Chem is building collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships to develop green energy and new bio materials for the planet and consumers.

    Solution areas:

    • Fermantation or chemical conversion technology to produce bio-based monomer (e.g. Bio C2/C3, Cellulsic EtOH, Algal EtOH, Decarbonized corn/sugarcane EtOH, Adipic Acid, Bio-AN/SM/Sebacic Acid, etc.)
    • Technology to improve the efficiency in seperation and purification during production of bio-monomer
    • Bioplastic with improved performance or additives for bioplastic (e.g. High barrier property, improved compostability, PBAT anaerobic decomposition)

    Application Phase: CLOSED

  • High Efficient Energy System

To expand the use of eco-friendly renewable energy, LG Chem is continuously developing new materials and technologies to improve performance and enhance the efficiency of green energy, such as secondary cells and solar power. We are also introducing new processes such as carbon capture and utilization to accelerate low-carbon practices, and strengthening cooperation on innovative technologies to increase energy efficiency in existing plants.

    Solution areas:

    • New or alternative lightweight materials to maximize the efficiency of renewable energy
    • Innovative technology to reduce carbon and maximize the efficiency in petrochemical process

    Application Phase: CLOSED

  • New Materials / Technologies for EV and Battery

With the dissemination of eco-friendly electric vehicles and the expansion of renewable energy use, it has become paramount to achieve exceptional quality in secondary cells and additional battery materials. To overcome the biggest barrier to EV performance, LG Chem is developing new battery materials such as CNT materials, aerogel insulants, thermal adhesives, and anode binders to improve the performance and efficiency of batteries. In addition, we are expanding partnerships to develop interior and exterior materials that meet the features required by electric vehicles and various functional materials to offset road noise.

    Solution areas:

    • New materials to improve the performance of secondary battery
    • New materials to reduce vibration, noise and weight in electric vehicle

    Application Phase: CLOSED
